Brooklyn Unbound

This studio aims to teach the dance traditions of the world to its client base. Where better to situate this venture than the heart of Brooklyn, a locality with near unparalleled diversity. The community of Brooklyn and the ambitions of the dance studio share one thing; they cannot be bound.

Type and Logo Experimentation: The aim was to create something dynamic that could convey the idea of breaking boundaries.

Perfect Piece

A chocolate maker driven by their desire for perfection and purity, but inspired to passion by their memories of family traditions. This design merges the two desires by drawing inspiration from the traditional tilework of Turkey. Precision and heritage in equal measure.

New Cycles of Life

An art and culture exhibition deeply concerned with the future of our planet and our role in its stewardship. The brochure needed to be alluring and immersive, driving the reader to want to dive deep into it exhibits. Dark colors, imagery that requires analysis, and strong contrast would achieve these goals.

Bolt Action

Historical wargaming has a storied history, with its first standardized rulebook, “Little Wars”, being penned by H.G. Wells. In the modern era, it’s fallen by the wayside, with sci-fi and fantasy games like Warhammer dominating the market. Historical games are often seen as a bit stuffy, but what if we could bring some of the fun and creativity back to these systems?

After the initial ideation and branding process was finished, I had a very strong sense that I wanted my design to be tactile in a way.

This led to a trip to the Museum of American Armor to get up close and personal with some real historical military hardware.

In order to lean into the artistic side of the hobby I decided that I would need to do it myself.

I spent a weekend painting up a scale model of a Sherman tank, to feature prominently in the rollout.

LMAO Festival

The LMAO comedy festival demanded something outside to box to communicate the intense energy of its shows and celebratory atmosphere brought by its crowds. By taking things into the real world, with abstract shapes and bold colors, a festival was brought to life.

My meager paper cutting/arrangement workstation. Add in a few lighting panels for the photos and you have a *very professional* setup.

Russian Constructivism served as a significant source of inspiration.

Paper clippings arranged in their patterns, post image treatment. Notably the blacks needed to be brought down, and the vibrancy brought way up.

Once the patterns were ready, I placed them in their containers, applied a background color, and aligned the type. I very much considered the type a part of the abstract composition of the piece and so grids were used... loosely.
